A Life Lesson From a Lizard

I walked out onto the deck at our office to make a private phone call. I have a habit of pacing when I'm on the phone. As I paced back and forth, I felt something squish under my shoe. I instinctively took the weight off of that foot when I realized I'd stepped on something alive! It turned out to be a lizard that had been lying in the sun, warming himself, or herself on that cool Fall day.
I felt bad for him. Or her? ...as it wriggled in pain from a broken body. My first thoughts were remorse for what I'd done. I should've been more careful. If only I'd been paying closer attention this tragedy would never have happened.
Then something else's occurred to me. There's a life lesson to be learned here.
"Those who refuse to move are often stepped over or stepped on. Don't ever get too comfortable where you are."
